I'm the author eight books (six fiction, two non-fiction). A number of these have been published internationally as well as in Australia and have appeared on bestseller lists. I've also published countless essays, short stories and other writings, have had several plays produced and done a number of translations from Chinese including movie subtitles. I also write on art and culture and appear from time to time on television programs such as the ABC’s Q&A and sadly defunct Critical Mass.
Though I was born in New London, Connecticut, I’ve lived outside the US for well over half my life and have been an Australian citizen for some twenty years now. I live in Sydney, a city I adore even if it is as shallow and hedonistic as people from Melbourne say it is.
I am a visiting fellow in the School of Culture, History and Language at the College of Asia and the Pacific at the Australian National University.

The only online social networking site to which I belong is goodreads.com; if you want to befriend me (‘befriend’ - now doesn’t that sound wildly old-fashioned and grammatical), and share news of what you’re reading, come on over: http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/300837.Linda_Jaivin
Please check out the rest of this site at your leisure – I’ve got to get back to my writing.
